The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPVFRA) issued a Public Notice (1 of 2025) on 29th May 2025.

The notice pertains to the classification of applications for registration of parental lines of extant hybrids notified under Section 5 of the Seeds Act, 1966.

The Registrar-General is currently examining how to categorize these applications, and is considering three possible classifications for such parental lines:

a) Extant varieties notified under the Seeds Act, 1966; or

b) Extant varieties of common knowledge; or

c) New varieties.

In light of this ongoing examination, the Authority has called upon all concerned applicants to submit a list of their applications, indicating the category under which they have applied. Additionally, applicants who wish to be heard before the matter is decided may request a hearing.

The request can be submitted either in hard copy or via email to rg-ppvfra@nic.in.
